There was a nice hike this week with a few friends. We took the Hoapili Trail, which is found at the end of Makena Road in South Maui, out to the Hanamanioa lighthouse. The hike is best attempted early in the morning, but of course, we began a few hours before sunset. It was a nice hike, the sky was clear and the company was grand…especially the unexpected company of a Hawaiian monk seal.
My attempt to shoot a sunrise on Sunday was foiled by rain and clouds. I drove down the hill to Kihei hoping it was dry down there (it never rains in Kihei), but things did not work out for a landscape shot, so I swapped my wide angle lens for my zoom lens and made it to Kealia Pond, a wildlife refuge in North Kihei. I got a few shots of herons and stilts, but I am still learning my new camera and feel I can get better shots with more practice.
